Alberto Cauli, recently appointed Full Professor in Rheumatology at the University of Cagliari, Italy, as well as Director of the Rheumatology Division at the University Hospital

Greetings from Alberto Cauli!! I have recently been appointed Full Professor in Rheumatology at the University of Cagliari, Italy, as well as Director of the Rheumatology Division at the University Hospital and coordinator of the Rheumatology Resident training curriculum.
I started my career as a junior doctor in the team of Prof. Alessandro Mathieu, my lifelong mentor, then I spent many years in London at Guy’s and St. Thomas Hospitals, as research fellow of Prof. Panayi (arthritis clinic) and Dr. Hughes (Lupus Clinic), where I got a PhD in Rheumatology from King’s College.
Once back in Italy, I have participated in many collaborative studies -  and in 1997 I spent a visitorship stay - with the Department of Autoimmune Diseases of the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, often under the umbrella of the Euro-Lupus consortium, all focused on genetic, clinical features and therapy of systemic lupus erythematosus. I am currently fellow of SIR, BSR, ACR, GRAPPA and ASAS.
The friendship and collaboration with the fabulous colleagues of the Autoimmunity team of the Hospital Clinic will be reinforced in the contest of the ongoing 3TR EU IMI project (2019-2025). It is a great honor for me to be part of the Barcelona Clinic Autoimmunity – Alumni club, I thank Ricard for inviting me to join. My e-mail address for networking with the other alumni is cauli@unica.it
